This is a "must-read" for fans of "enemies-to-lovers" and "grumpy x sunshine" tropes, though it leans much more into the "grumpy" and "traumatized" end of the spectrum. This is book #3 in the series but can be read as a stand-alone.
While the world-building remains top-tier, the middle section can feel a bit sluggish as the characters spend a significant amount of time in "regrouping" mode. Additionally, readers who haven't finished books one and two might find the early references to the "sleeping curse" and the rebellion a bit overwhelming, despite the provided recap.
The chemistry between Nox and Devora is the heart of this book. Moving the setting to the mountainous, grey province of Drakorum creates a palpable sense of isolation and tension. The exploration of Devora’s "Shadow Wielder" magic (which reacts to her nightmares and trauma) adds a compelling psychological layer to the fantasy elements.

It's helpful to note that while there are no 'explicitly inappropriate' scenes, the book does contain mature themes.
-Violence & Torture
-On-page Death
-Traumatic Flashbacks
-Unwanted Physical Touch & Dubious Consent
-Child Endangerment
-Self-Inflicted Pain
